Where will your money go?

An example of our work: How it really does make a difference

In 2009 the Kenyan Government announced their intention to evict everyone living in the Mau Forest in Kenya to try to prevent political land grabbing and to preserve the forest. But, the Ogiek are a hunting and gathering community that have lived in the forest for hundreds if not thousands of years. Their sustainable way of life is intimately bound up with the forest and its resources.

MRG and others stepped in to support the Ogiek to prevent the evictions going ahead. With our support, they organised a campaign targeting government officials, the media and international organisations working in Kenya. We also gave them legal advice to see if we could go to the courts to stop the evictions.

Your support enables us to intervene in more cases like the Ogiek around the world.

In the case of the Ogieks, a grant of £2,500 to the main organization representing the community has ensured that a campaign challenging this eviction could be launched.

It resulted in the whole community being able stay on its ancestral land.

Your support will go a long way in the countries where we work and can literally change lives.

We promise you results which will benefit a whole community like what we achieved with the Ogieks.
