Anna Koptova v. Slovak Republic

8 August 2000

(Communication No. 13/1998), UN Doc. CERD/C/57/D/13/1998 (2000)

Subject:

Article 5 (d) (i) - Right to freedom of movement and residence:

Prohibitions on settlements and other restrictions placed on Roma families by local municipalities in the Slovak Republic.

Conclusion:

No violation of Article 5:

The restrictions on freedom of movement and residence were rescinded so that CERD did not find that they represented a violation of Article 5. Nevertheless CERD recommended that the Respondent State take necessary measures to ensure that practices restricting the freedom of movement and residence of Roma were fully eliminated.
