Petition

To the UN member states:

At the 6th Session of the Human Rights Council in September 2007, the Human Rights Council will decide on the future of the Working Group on Minorities. We, the undersigned, stress the importance of minority issues in the work of the UN and we call on all UN member states to ensure that the UN human rights system maintains a forum dedicated to minorities.

The forum must:

  • Be an official UN meeting where minorities can raise their issues, meet with UN officials and hold discussions with their Government representatives.
  • Facilitate participation of NGOs from all over the world regardless of ECOSOC status.
  • Allow the discussions in the forum to inform the work of the Human Rights Council.
